How to process black and white film:
- (BEFORE STARTING) Take the canister with the film rewound back into it from out of the camera.
- Take a developing tank, scissors, film canister opener and the canister of film into a dark room.
- (IN DARKNESS) Once in complete darkness, open the canister, get rid of the film spool and cut the end of the film. once all that has been done load the film carefully onto the spiral. Then put the central tube through the middle of the spiral and then place it into the tank. Lastly, put the funnel on top of the tank making sure that it is on correctly.
- (PREPARING CHEMISTRY) Using water at 20 degrees, add one part water and one part X-Tol developer: one 35mm film = 300ml of a mixed solution so (150ml X-Tol + 150ml water = 300ml) so for two 35mm films, just double the mixed solution.
- (DEVELOPING) Pour mixed developer into the tan and put the lid back on. start a timer once the developer is in the tank. the time should be set for around 10 minutes. Every 30 seconds tip the tank twice so that the developer can cover the whole film. Prepare 300ml of stop and fixative. 15 seconds before the timer ends, tip the developer into the waste tank.
- (STOP) Fill the tank with the stop, tip the tank twice and then pour this back into the stop bottle.
- (FIX) Fill the tank with fixative and tip the tank nonstop for 30 seconds. Then, fix for another 4 minutes and tip the tank once every 30 seconds, then pour this back into the fix bottle.
- (WASH) Fill the tank with water at 20 degrees and tip the tank 5 times and then empty the tank. Do the same again but tip 10 times. Do the same again but this time 20 times.
- (RINSE & DRY) Take the lid off the top of the tank and remove the spiral with the film in from the tank. place the spiral holding the film into the wetting agent bath for a few seconds. very carefully remove the film from the spiral and leave to hang drying in the cabinet for around 15 minutes.
- (SLEEVING) Once the film is dry, cut the film into strips of six frames and carefully put them into the protective sleeve.
